This is the third module from the Islamic Input in Clinical Practice for Clinical Postgraduate Program at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Islamisation of Human Knowledge (IOHK) is embodied as one of the official missions in the International Islamic University Malaysia. The Kulliyyah of Medicine has been given the task to propagate the Islamic Teachings in Medical Practice at the Postgraduate level in which seminar presentations are organised annually to cater to that need. This subject is part of series of topics outlined for IOHK clinical postgraduate program.

Learning outcome:

Upon completion of the lessons in this book, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the concept and principles of Muamalah in Islam and Maqasid Shariah in medical practice.
  2. Identify the acceptable concept of doctor-patient relationship and “shared decision making” according to Islamic principles.
  3. Demonstrate competency in providing informed consent to patients with regards to the illness and treatment as well as the impact to the patient, family and their belief.
  4. Understand the general concept of Shariah compliant medical practice.
